Description

This print was carefully hand-created by engraving a block of end-grain maple, and then printed on a Vandercook proofing press. The image features two outstretched hands reaching down through an eclipse-darkened sky towards an undulating ring-neck garter snake being buried in a ground full of stars. It can alternatively be displayed with the hands pointed up, and the imagery is up for interpretation although the various elements speak clearly about change, transformation, and the cycle of life and death.

I was inspired to create this piece after the passing of my cousin in July 2023. Around that time, a tiny ring-neck snake appeared before me, deceased, and taught me how to face and process my grief by honoring the natural cycles of the Universe. It was a powerful reminder to listen and notice the lessons that are all around us.
